A 20-minute drive away.

Adding to the list of places Singaporeans can go to in Johor Bahru is the new Ikea that just opened on Nov. 16.

It's the largest Ikea store in Southeast Asia. It is also the first Ikea store in southern Malaysia.

But is it worth going to the new Ikea Tebrau branch at Johor Bahru? Are the prices there really cheaper than Ikea Singapore?

Here's a price comparison of the five most popular Ikea products found in Singapore and JB:

1. POÄNG chairs

While there is not much price difference for the standard POÄNG armchair (Ikea Tebrau's is just S$2 cheaper), the POÄNG rocking-chair at Ikea Tebrau is a good S$130 cheaper than if you buy it in Singapore.

JB: RM519 (~S$170)

Singapore: S$299

2. Lack tables

How to get there

Ikea JB is just a 20-minute drive from the Woodlands Causeway, and is located next to the Aeon Tebrau City shopping mall.

Unfortunately, they only deliver to areas within the Klang Valley (including Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Kajang and selected parts of Rawang).

So you will have to drive across the Causeway and bring your purchases back home yourself in order to take advantage of the price difference.

Or if you can't drive there and don't mind lugging the furniture back, you can always make use of the Grab promotion that's going on from now till the end of December, and somehow or rather make your way back to Singapore (private car hire perhaps).

Address:  33, Jalan Harmonium, Taman Desa Tebrau, Johor Bahru, 81100 Johor, Malaysia

Opening Hours:

Sunday to Thursday: 10am – 10pm

Friday, Saturday & Public Holidays: 10am – 11pm

We know that most Singaporeans are kiasu and would travel to JB just to snag a good deal.

And it's good that most Johoreans like us too.
